The Talking Spot is a private speech therapy practice in Williamsburg, VA that provides speech-language evaluation and treatment services for all ages.
We believe that therapy services are meant to be a cooperation between the client + family and the clinician. It should be a fun learning experience and an opportunity to grow and develop with confidence and understanding.
Phone Consultations
A complimentary consultation opens the conversation and allows us to understand your concerns. Our discussion will help determine if speech-language therapy services are recommended, and an evaluation can be scheduled at the end of the consultation.
Evaluations
Evaluations will include a thorough assessment of communication, including speech and language skills. Additional areas, such as feeding/swallowing or augmentative communication may also be warranted, depending upon each client’s needs. A written report with treatment goals will be shared following the evaluation.
Speech Therapy
Engaging, individualized treatment sessions will be provided for each client. These typically last 45 minutes to 1 hour and can occur once or twice per week, depending on each client’s needs. In-person service options are available in the Williamsburg area and teletherapy is available for those in any Virginia location.

How do I know if speech-language therapy services are needed?Therapy is recommended to address difficulties in the areas of speech, language, feeding, and/or comprehension. For more detailed information, please visit our services page. Do not hesitate to reach out! Susan can answer any questions and provide a consultation to determine whether an evaluation is needed.
-
Do you accept insurance? At this time, we only accept private pay. We are happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement; this is the client’s sole responsibility. Please note that payment is due at the time of service.

My pediatrician said I could “wait and see,” but I am still unsure. Do I need a referral to start speech therapy?A doctor’s referral is not required to see a pediatric speech-language pathologist; however, one may be necessary for reimbursement if you are submitting a superbill. Some pediatricians may recommend waiting; however, research has indicated that if difficulties exist, earlier intervention is better! As a mother, Susan understands parent’s intuition. You know your child better than anyone and can request an evaluation, even if it is just to make sure that your child is developing communication skills at the expected age.
-
Is an evaluation required to begin therapy? An evaluation is necessary unless a comprehensive evaluation from a speech-language pathologist has been completed within the last 6 months. Please provide a copy of the most recent assessment report and treatment notes/IEP for review.
